GRONINGEN – The drinking water supply in Groningen and environs has been restored. A leak in the water mains caused 220,000 households to be without water since midnight last night. The leak was located this morning and repaired.

Residents are still being advised to boil water for 2 minutes before use, until the end of the day tomorrow at least. Ground water may have seeped into the water supply before the leak was repaired.

The University Medical Centre closed the outpatient clinics today and postponed operations. The Martini hospital decided to carry out operations as usual this morning.
