BEIJING - Wang Xin gave herself a belated birthday present as she won the platform diving competition with Chen Ruolin on Tuesday to complete a Chinese gold medal grand slam in the synchronised events of the sport.

Xin, who turned 16 on Monday, and Chen, 15, scored the highest marks in all five jumps of the final as they ran away with a score of 363.54 points, which netted them the g.old

Briony Cole and Melissa Wu of Australia had 335.16 points for silver and Mexicans Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz took bronze with 330.06 points.

It was the second major title for Xin and Chen as Chen won the 10m individual world title last year and Xin was part of the synchro platform team.

The women's platform completed the synchronised events at the Beijing Games and China won all four of them in the men's and women's platform and springboard.

China now hopes for glory in the individual events as well as it seeks all eight diving golds at the home Games to cement its dominance of the sport over the past years.
