AMSTERDAM — Two men sought in the UK in connection with the axe murder of black teenager Anthony Walker are being questioned by police in Liverpool.
Michael Barton, 17, brother of Manchester City footballer Joey Barton, and Paul Taylor, 20, returned voluntarily from Amsterdam on Wednesday evening. They were arrested when their plane touched down at Liverpool John Lennon Airport just before 7pm British time.
The men were accompanied on the easyJet flight by a solicitor.
Police investigating Walker's murder launched an international hunt for the pair earlier this week. There were reports the men had flew to Amsterdam but it was also suggested they may have travelled on to Spain. Footballer Joey Barton made a public appeal to his brother to turn himself in.
Sky News reported the two suspects are from the Huyton area of Liverpool, where Mr Walker was attacked with an axe while out with his white girlfriend and a cousin.
Walker, 17, was an A-level student and a talented athlete. He was beaten to death with an axe after he tried to walk away from a group of teenagers who shouted racist abuse at him at 11.30pm on Friday.
