Waiting lists predicted for Dutch debt help

The NVVK, the association for debt assistance and social banking, warns there will be a waiting list next year for people who want help from their local council to cope with their debts.

NVVK chair Joke de Kock says “As a result of the cutbacks they’re won't be enough money available next year to help people with their debts”.

Local councils are responsible for tackling the increasing debt problem but their budgets are being cut.

Last year, one in ten Dutch households had at least one outstanding debt.
