WWII graves desecrated in Zeeland

Eleven graves from a French military cemetery were vandalised over the weekend.

Zeeland – Eleven graves at a French military cemetery in Kapelle in the province of Zeeland have been defiled, said police on Sunday.

Ten North African and French soldiers’ tombs were marked with crosses while a Star of David which marked one of the graves disappeared completely.

The vandalism at the cemetery, which houses the graves of French and North African soldiers from World War II, was believed to have happened over the weekend.  

The police added they found more evidence of more vandalism in the vicinity of the cemetery.
