Vogelaar criticises Dutch Labour leader
Former Housing and Integration Minister Ella Vogelaar has criticised Labour Party leader Wouter Bos.
15 November 2008
THE NETHERLANDS – The Minister, who was forced to resign on Thursday, says Bos played a role in the negative media coverage which helped to lead to her downfall.
Ms Vogelaar says that by repeatedly emphasising the need for a 'hard' course in the integration debate he gave the impression that she was too 'soft'.
In the Dutch current affairs programme 'NOVA', the former Labour minister said her dismissal was unexpected. However, she has the impression that party leaders had been planning her departure for some time, since they found a successor very quickly.
She will be succeeded by Eberhard van der Laan, a lawyer and former member of the Amsterdam city council.
