AMSTERDAM - Rita Verdonk will not be relinquishing her seat in Parliament. She will remain in Parliament, and keep her membership in the liberal VVD party. The NOS broadcasting company reported this on Monday afternoon.

Last week Verdonk was expelled from the VVD faction by party leader Mark Rutte after she openly criticised the policy of the party.

The politician reportedly has said that she does not want to let down the electorate and will continue as MP. Sources close to the politician have reported this. Verdonk received more than 600,000 preferential votes in the last general election.

The controversial politician will appear on television programme EenVandaag Monday evening to talk about her decision.
