THE HAGUE – Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven thinks it would be "fantastic" if the 2028 Olympic Games were to be held in the Netherlands. This is why she is earmarking EUR 400,000 for a feasibility study to look into whether this is possible.

Van der Hoeven wrote this in her online journal on the website of the ministry of economic affairs on Monday. The Olympic Games have "a major economic effect on the country organising them," the minister writes.

"It would be a great year to aim for, to host the games exactly one century after the Netherlands organised the Games for the first time. We would all have to get to work now however."
