AMSTERDAM – Economic Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven shares the concerns expressed by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with regard to the Randstad area.

The region is missing out on opportunities because of poor cooperation between knowledge institutes and the business sector.

Van der Hoeven expressed this "lament" at the opening of the conference on the Randstad in The Hague today.

The OECD devoted a study to the Randstad, where 50 percent of the gross national product is earned and where 55 percent of foreign companies in the Netherlands is based, the minister said.

"That is where the image that the rest of the world has of the Netherlands is determined."
