THE HAGUE – Motorists should be able to request license plates for their car with customised text. Liberal VVD MP Paul de Krom is going to propose this to Transport and Water Management Minister Camiel Eurlings during the debate on this ministry's budget.

De Krom told the NOS Journaal this on Monday. He came up with the idea during a visit to the US, where motorists have been able to request special license plates, also called vanity plates, for some time. For an extra charge motorists can ask to have plates with their name or nickname, for instance.

De Krom says he just thinks it would be a nice idea to drive around with customised plates, especially in a time when "the cabinet lets us do hardly anything anymore."
