AMSTERDAM – In comparison to the parliamentary elections in November 2006, it looks as if the Liberal VVD might achieve the best result, “in relative terms,” in the upcoming elections for the Provincial States. Pollster Maurice de Hond said this on Sunday based on a survey he had conducted.

De Hond said it was almost certain that this party would gain significantly compared to its results in the parliamentary elections, where the party suffered a major defeat.

The fact that Geert Wilders’ party is not taking part and that some Christian democrat CDA voters will switch to the VVD could mean that this party could come closer to getting 20 percent of the votes (which would have resulted in 30 seats in parliament after the general elections) rather than 15 percent (23 seats).
