31 October 2006
AMSTERDAM - October 2006 receives the second place on the list of warmest October months since 1901. That was made known by the KNMI on Tuesday. Particularly the high temperatures on the 26th of October were remarkable, according to the climatology service.
In Arcen (Limburg) it was then 23.3 degrees Celsius. The average temperature for the Netherlands was 13.6 degrees.
The comfortable temperatures did not come as a surprise.
October 2006 follows, as it happens, the warmest September month in three centuries. Also other heat records have recently been established. Thus October 2001 with an average temperature of 14.2 degrees was the absolute record holder. The third place goes to October 2005. Then it was on average 13.3 degrees.
