AMSTERDAM — A 33-year-old man was jailed for 12 years by a court in Den Bosch on Thursday for stabbing and killing the woman he claimed to have loved.

The court heard the man from Weert went to 29-year-old Barbra de Jong's home and told her he was prepared to leave his wife to be with her.

The victim however indicated she did not feel the same way for him. She refused to leave her own partner.

The man reacted by stabbing her 32 times. He later threw the knife into the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal.

The Public Prosecutor had asked that the man be jailed for 16 years.
