The Netherlands - Anglo-Dutch food and detergent giant Unilever is buying a part of its competitor Sara Lee. Unilever is spending EUR 1.275 billion on Sara Lee's body care lines, which includes brands like Sanex, Ambi Pur and Duschdas.

Annual sales in this division total some USD 750, according to Sara Lee.

Unilever owns other brands in the body care sphere like Dove, Axe and Rexona. The acquisition "builds on our portfolio in Western Europe and also in Asia. Personal Care is a strategic category and a key growth driver for Unilever", Unilever ceo Paul Polman said in a press release.

Sara Lee appears equally pleased with the sale: it will allow them to "concentrate on our core food and beverage businesses", Sara Lee chair Brenda C. Barnes told reporters.
