"Unemployed Antilleans not welcome"
Young Antilleans should no longer be allowed to settle in the Netherlands if they have no work or education, say the CDA and PvdA.19 March 2008
THE HAGUE – Young Antilleans should no longer be allowed to settle in the Netherlands if they have no work or education. MPs Van Toorenburg (Christian democrat CDA) and Dijsselbloem (Labour PvdA) have said this.
The PvdA also thinks that Antilleans who do not satisfy these requirements but are already living in the Netherlands should be forced to return to the Antilles. The Antilles has a special education requirement for youth to the age of 24: they must either be employed or following education.
The plan fits in with a proposal to make it possible to declare young Antilleans who repeatedly get in trouble with the law in the Netherlands as undesirable individuals. Justice Minister Hirsch Ballin is currently working on proposed legislation to make this possible.
