UN lifts Kouwenhoven travel ban

The United Nations has lifted its travel ban against Dutch businessman Guus Kouwenhoven and has unfrozen his assets.

AMSTERDAM --  A court in The Hague cleared him of war crimes and illegal arms sales in March of last year. He was accused of illegal arms sales in 2002 and 2003, when Liberia was in the midst of a civil war.

Kouwenhoven was originally sentenced in eight years in jail. However, an appeals court ruled that here was insufficient evidence. His lawyer says the UN has now come to the same conclusion.
