Turkish Airlines wreckage removed from crash site
The wreckage of the Turkish Airlines Boeing which crashed short of the runway at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is being moved today.
AMSTERDAM - The fuselage, cockpit and tail will be stored in a hanger in East Schiphol for further investigation.
A number of important roads around the airport have been closed temporarily to clear the way for heavy cranes and low-loader lorries.
The Turkish plane crashed around three weeks ago in a field near the Polder runway.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an altimeter malfunctioned, causing the plane to lose height and crash. Attempts by the pilots to abort the landing failed.
Nine people were killed in the crash, including the pilots.
