AMSTERDAM — The weather for the next few days will reach tropical temperatures this week.
Meteorological service KNMI said it is very well possible that it will announce the year's second heatwave by mid week. The first heatwave occurred at the start of July. A heatwave is defined as five consecutive days of 25 degrees or above, and three of the days of 30 degrees or above.
KNMI is predicting temperatures as follows: 31 degrees (Monday); 30/34 degrees (Tuesday); 30/35 degrees (Wednesday); 26/29 (Thursday); 26/29 (Friday). It is almost 60 years ago that there was more than one heatwave in a single summer; two in 1948 and four in 1947.
Drought will become a major issue if the high temperatures and dry spell continues, the meteorological service said. The east of the Netherlands is particularly dry at the moment.
