Tropical heat headed for Netherlands again

The Dutch national weather centre KNMI says there is a good chance that tropical temperatures will return to the Netherlands this coming weekend.

The rise in temperature would be due to warm air that, from Wednesday, is expected to flow from the south and cover the whole country. Weekend temperatures in the interior could reach 30 degrees Celsius and higher.

Whether this means that a new heat wave is on the way is not yet clear. A heat wave is said to exist if temperatures in De Bilt, the town in the centre of the Netherlands where KNMI has its headquarters, reach 25 degrees Celsius or higher for at least five days, and at least 30 degrees for three of those days.
