Train travellers cross about 'basic fee' on smart cards

10th July 2014, Comments 0 comments

There have been 225 complaints about the public transport smart card since paper tickets vanished on Wednesday morning, the Dutch consumers' association Consumentenbond says.

Most of the complaints are about the need to have a minimum of EUR 20 on the card in order to travel.

Travellers who seldom use the train are cross the cash remains on the card and they cannot spend it elsewhere, the association says.

Since Wednesday morning passengers can only travel with a smart card with which to check in and out at stations.
