GOOR - An association of entrepreneurs in the town of Goor, in the eastern province of Overijssel, are investigating whether it would be possible to change the town's name.

They say that Goor, which means 'grubby', 'dingy' and 'rank' is preventing the town from acquiring a positive image.

The 13,000 inhabitants are being asked via a digital survey to give their opinion on the matter. The survey is also looking at the role played by the town's asbestos factory Eternit.

The factory has earned the town the reputation as the epicentre of asbestos pollution in the Netherlands.

Although it would take considerable time, a change of name for the town is legally possible.
