The Hague – A man from The Hague has been arrested after he attacked and stabbed a guard working for the HTM public transport company on Monday evening.

The police announced on Tuesday that the man attacked the ticket inspector because he had earlier fined the man's girlfriend for not having a valid ticket.

The ticket inspector was working on tram line 9 when he was stabbed at around 21.00 on Monday.

According to the ANP press agency, HTM staff came to the assistance of their colleague, who had to spend the night in hospital for observation. The attacker gave himself up to transport personnel without much trouble and his girlfriend was later also arrested by police.
