AMSTERDAM/WASHINGTON – The employer of Ayaan Hirsi Ali in the US opened two funds on Tuesday in which sponsors can donate money to pay for the security of Hirsi Ali. Another fund has been set up in Amsterdam.

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where Hirsi Ali is currently working, announced this on Tuesday. The conservative think tank has called on interested parties to donate money.

The AEI has created two funds for Hirsi Ali in the US; one of the funds is not only for Hirsi Ali but also supports other dissident Muslims. Britta Böhler’s law firm will be managing the fund in Amsterdam that has been set up to handle donations from outside the US.

With these funds in place Hirsi Ali has indeed started collecting money for her security in the US. The Netherlands has paid for the security costs during the past few years. The payments were stopped on 1 October, after the transition period had been extended twice. A majority in parliament supported the government decision last week.

After Hirsi Ali resigned as MP for the VVD she moved to Washington in September of last year and started working for the AEI.
