The Netherlands - The Don’t Call Me Register (Bel-me-niet Register) set up by the Ministry for Economic Affairs is an enormous success.

The register enables people to state that they do not want to receive unsolicited telephone calls from companies and telemarketers.

Deputy Minister Frank Heemskerk said that from the time it went online on Thursday to Saturday morning, the site received 55,000 registrations.

On Friday, between 4000 and 5000 people were registering every hour.

The enormous interest in the site initially brought it to a standstill. However, it has now been successfully modified and is capable of handling large numbers of visitors.
