Third week of purple plus talks
The talks aimed at reaching agreement on a "purple plus" government coalition of VVD, the Labour party, D66 and Green Left enter their third week today.
Just before he entered the Senate building where the talks are taking place, the leader of the conservative VVD, Mark Rutte, announced that he has the backing of the senior members of his party.
Mr Rutte held briefings at the weekend with the party's national executive and regional leaders.
The coalition is referred to as purple plus since it would combine the "blue" of the VVD with the "red" of the Labour Party.
