Indonesian media report that a third Dutch person has died as the result of a bus accident near Bandung on the Indonesian island of Java on Friday morning. A spokesperson from the Dutch Foreign Ministry said he could not confirm the report.

On Friday the ministry confirmed the deaths of two Dutch citizens; a man and a woman. At least eight people were injured in the accident, one of them seriously. It is not clear whether all the victims are Dutch. The bus carried at least one Belgian national, a Japanese and an Indonesian tour guide.

The two were in Java since 4 October with the travel agency, NRV based in Rijswijk. NRV’s director and a team from aid agency SOS International have gone to Bandung to assist victims.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known. Early reports from local media suggest the bus’s brakes had malfunctioned.

The Hague has released little information regarding the Dutch victims, revealing only that the woman worked for the city of Breda.
