The Life and Death of Herman Brood
A rock opera entitled is being made about the life and death of Dutch singer and painter Herman Brood, who committed suicide in 2001.
The stage show has been adapted by Frank Black, former vocalist of US cult band Pixies, from his 2007 solo album of the same name which was inspired by Brood's paintings.
Art dealer Ivo de Lange, a friend of Brood's, says the opera will be premiered in Houston, Texas on 18 November.
Herman Brood came to prominence in the late 1970s and the 1980s as a singer, pianist and self- proclaimed "rock 'n' roll junkie". Later he also gained renown as a painter.
At the age of 54 he committed suicide by jumping from the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton.
