Alan Bennett's British smash hit play will have its Netherlands premiere at CREA Theatre, Amsterdam; dates in October and December.

Alan Bennett’s deeply endearing coming-of-age tale makes its Netherlands debut on 1 October at Amsterdam’s CREA Theatre. Presented in English by the Queen’s English Theatre Company for a total of 17 performances, The History Boys is well on its way to becoming a modern classic.

Set in Britain’s industrial north in the early 1980s, the play introduces an unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. Bennett’s quintessentially British humour finds full expression—alongside poignant drama and a good dose of music—in this new production’s talented, young cast.

In London’s West End, The History Boys grabbed a 2005 Olivier Award for Best Play. The Daily Telegraph raved, “A play of depth as well as dazzle, intensely moving as well as thought-provoking and funny.” Bennett promptly balanced that honour with a Tony Award on Broadway. A film version was released in 2006 starring Richard Griffiths and Frances de la Tour.
