The Hague to keep calling for Liu release
The Netherlands will continue pressing China to release human rights activist Liu Xiaobo, caretaker Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen said hours after Mr Liu won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Mr Verhagen said he hoped "the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize will help strengthen the position of human rights activists around the world".
The Nobel Committee gave Mr Liu the distinction for his long, non-violent human rights campaign in China. The committee says human rights and peace are closely connected.
In December, Mr Liu was jailed for 11 years for being co-author of "Charta 2008", a manifesto calling for free speech and multi-party elections.
The European Union and several member states have repeatedly called on China to release Mr Liu and other human rights activists.
