THE HAGUE – People throwing cigarette ends or spitting out chewing gum onto the streets of The Hague will be liable for a fine of EUR 95 from 2009.

The draconian new policy will be enforced by special officers.

In 2007, The Hague city council launched its 'Clean The Hague' campaign. As part of the clean-up effort, teams of cleaners are being deployed around the city and more rubbish bins are in use.

Presumably this was never enforced. Someone has let their dog crap on the platform or centraal station this weekend, and everyone seems to spit all the time.
