Temporary employment sector shrinks again

The number of hours worked by temporary staff in June and July fell 5% on the year-earlier period, according to figures from sector organisation ABU.

Turnover in the sector was down 2%.

The demand for temporary staff fell in all sectors, with administration and the industrial sector down 4% and the technical sector down 7%.

The care sector saw the biggest fall; around 33% compared with 2012.

Temporary employment has been shrinking since the beginning of 2012 and has not yet shown a levelling off.
