AMSTERDAM — A mother, 16, has been remanded in custody as the investigation into the death of her eight-month-old child in mid August continues.

An examining magistrate in Den Bosch also agreed to a request by the public prosecutor to keep the mother's boyfriend, 19, in custody. The mother is from Boxtel and the male suspect is from Eindhoven.

The baby was admitted to Radboud Hospital in Nijmegen on 12 August and died three days later, allegedly as the consequence of physical abuse.

Police have been investigating the circumstances of the baby's death but a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office declined to give any details about the case on Friday.
