ROTTERDAM – An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death on the Persoonshaven in Rotterdam last night. The perpetrator has not been caught, police have announced.

At about 9.30 pm a group of boys playing football on the street noticed a young man riding a bike that had been stolen from the neighbourhood a few days earlier. One of the boys recognised the bike as his own.

The 18-year-old and friends ran after the cyclist. Four boys farther up on the street stopped the man and confronted him about the theft.

A row ensued, upon which the cyclist dropped the bike, produced a knife and immediately stabbed the 18-year-old.

The victim, a resident of the neighbourhood where the incident took place, died shortly after, police report. Police are searching for the suspect, who is said to be between 17 and 20 years of age.
