AMSTERDAM — Three teenage boys have confessed  they were involved in the rape of a teenage girl in an Amsterdam apartment last month, the public prosecutor said on Tuesday.

The culprits, aged 14, 15 and 16, also allegedly forced a group of six male youths on the night of 16 October to watch and engage in sex acts with the victim as the gruesome crime was captured on video.

But only one of the three suspects is alleged to have raped the girl, a police spokesman said to Expatica on Tuesday. He rejected descriptions made by Dutch media of a "group rape".

After the armed culprits gained entry to an Amsterdam East apartment, the victims — who were alone in the building without the presence of an adult — were threatened and robbed. But the robbery quickly developed into the rape of the teenage girl, who is aged 15 or 16, the same as the other victims.

One of the youths later escaped with the camera and immediately alerted police. The video recording assisted in the arrest of the suspects and police also claim to have seized the stolen goods from their house. One of the suspects is an acquaintance of the victims.

Police have labelled the crime as "a very serious offence with a peculiar nature". Spokesman Rob van der Veen said: "It is a terrible story. The images from the video recording that we have seen are really horrifying".

All three suspects appeared in court at the end of last week and remain in custody.
