ZUTPHEN – A 54-year-old teacher sent a great many sms text messages of a sexual nature to two underage students at the Stedelijk Daltoncollege in Zutphen. The police reported this on Monday. He has been arrested on suspicion of stalking the girls and molesting them.

The teacher has in the meantime been arraigned and released pending the trial.

The examining magistrate has advised the teacher against having any contact with the two girls. Their parents reported the matter to the police last week. The police are not releasing any information about the students' ages so as to protect their identity.

Daily newspaper the Stentor reports that the school has put the teacher on sick leave for the time being. He has been working at the school for many years. The school has sent the parents of all 1,500 students at the school a letter on the incident.

General director of the school H. de Groot writes in the letter that the school is "lending full cooperation to the investigation by police and justice department." The school's primary concern in the coming days will be to support those who are facing difficulties because of the situation: students, former students and colleagues.
