AMSTERDAM – Those required to file a tax return this year may face difficulties reaching the tax authority for questions on filing income tax returns in the next few days. Tax returns must be filed by 1 April.

Strikes by civil servants at the tax office will most likely make it difficult for the public to contact the tax authority with questions. The tax authority is in talks with the trade unions to maintain the continuity in service provision as much as possible, a spokesperson said in a report in the Telegraaf today.

The trade unions for civil servants have called a strike to push for a 2.5-percent pay rise. The actions will start today at the customs offices in Rotterdam, and elsewhere. The tax offices will be closed in Nijmegen, Arnhem and Gorinchem on Thursday.
