TV helps solve Dutch crime cases

Cooperation between police and television is the most effective way of solving cases, said a spokesperson for the Dutch national police corps on Thursday. In 2010 alone, 343 cases were solved with the help of TV programme . 

According to the spokesperson, this programme boosted police success rates to 42 percent, up from 38 percent in 2009. 

Commercial broadcaster SBS 6 is also involved in police business. Images shown on that channel helped police solve one out of three cases. However, this is less than the success rate of .

“During that programme, viewers really sit and listen while on SBS 6 the cases come with the regular news,” explained the spokesperson.
