AMSTERDAM (dpa) - Swiss police arrested Dutch businessman Joep van den Nieuwenhuyzen, it was reported on Thursday.
The arrest of Nieuwenhuyzen, who is suspected of fraud, took place upon request of the Dutch investigation service FIOD-ECD, which is part of the Justice Ministry.
Earlier one of his coworkers had been arrested.
Late Wednesday, the Dutch Justice Ministry confirmed it wanted the businessman to be extradited to the Netherlands.
The FIOD-ECD also confirmed it had requested several countries to extradite Van den Nieuwenhuyzen if and when he was found there.
The Dutch authorities think Van den Nieuwenhuyzen is involved in the fraudulent bankruptcy of at least three of his companies.
The suspicions were raised for the first time when the Rotterdam Port Authority gave him a bank guarantee of some EUR 100 million.
