Dutch speed skater Sven Kramer could win his third consecutive world title as all-rounder today in the Norwegian city of Hamer.

HAMER - The skater from Friesland already headed the field half way through the competition.

If he does win the title, he will be the fifth skater ever to win three consecutive all round world titles. Up to now, the only Dutchman to achieve this is Ard Schenk.

The Dutch women's team is not doing as well.

Title defender Paulien van Deutekom is too far behind after the first day to win the competition. The best Dutch competitor, Ireen Wüst, who won the title in 2007, is in fifth place.

Czech skater Martina Sablikova is currently in the lead. She was European All-round Champion in 2007.
