AMSTERDAM — Police have publicly identified a suspect being sought following a sexual assault on a nine-year-old girl in her family home at the weekend.
Geoffrey Jacobs wanted for questioning
Police said Jacobs may have something to do with the assault on the girl in the southern Dutch city of Breda but they refused to go into detail.
It is very unusual for the authorities to publicly identify suspects. It was decided to name Jacobs as he has previously convictions for a string of sex offences.
One of the last times a suspect was named was in 2005 when convicted sex offender and psychiatric patient Wilhelm Schippers, 41, escaped from custody. While on the run he beat an elderly man to death in Amsterdam.
Schippers was re-captured a short time later and was jailed for eight years last May for the killing. He committed suicide in his cell two months later.
