AMSTERDAM – A 30-year-old man from Alphen aan den Rijn has confessed to killing his 22-year-old housemate in October last year. Further investigation will now be conducted on the basis of information in the confession. The public prosecution department did not want to release any more information about the case on Wednesday.

The victim was last seen on 2 October last year, his father reported him as missing a few days later. Some indications that a crime took place had already been found in the home where son lived; the father also lived at the same address. The body of the victim has not been found.

Neighbours say they saw the housemate put garbage bags in the dumpsters several times around the time of the disappearance. Several dumpsters have been confiscated for investigation.

The police arrested the suspect on 10 October. He has been in custody since that time. He is currently being held at the Pieter Baan psychiatric centre. The case will most likely be heard in court in June.
