Support for boost to Eurozone emergency fund
Finance Minister Jan Kees de Jager said he was grateful for the broad parliamentary support he received for his proposal to strengthen the eurozone emergency fund.
The minister said strengthening the fund was of great importance for the Netherlands and its economy. On Thursday, parliament held its annual debate on the finance ministry’s budget.
The Freedom Party, Socialist Party, Christian Union and Animal Rights Party voted against the proposal to reinforce the Eurozone emergency fund.
Minister De Jager called their opposition “ill-advised.” He said “the risk of doing nothing is much greater.” The finance minister promised to consult parliament each time a major step was to be taken regarding the emergency fund.
