Suarez of Ajax Amsterdam suspended after bite
Ajax Amsterdam have suspended forward Luis Suarez for two premier league matches after Suarez sank his teeth into PSV's Otman Bakkal's neck during a match on Sunday.
Suarez explained on Sunday that Bakkal "kept treading on my feet. But we've already talked it over". The players left the pitch arm-in-arm after the final whistle, and Bakkal said he did not want Suarez punished for his bite.
Arbiter Björn Kuipers, who was standing close to the two players, said he had not noticed anything unusual. "Otherwise I would have shown the red card," he told reporters.
In addition to the Ajax suspension, Suarez also risks being suspended by the Dutch national football association KNVB, which is investigating the incident.
His current suspension means that Ajax' forward will be not be in the squad for the premier league matches against VVV Venlo and NEC. Suarez will play as planned against Real Madrid on Tuesday, however.
