Strong decline in number of deaths
Fewer deaths were registered last year than expected by Statistics Netherlands.

AMSTERDAM – The number of deaths declined significantly last year, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). 3,000 fewer people died last year compared to 2006. That is a decrease of 2.6 percent.
The decline is remarkable, the AD writes. The CBS had in fact predicted that there would be more deaths because of the ageing population. CBS demographer Lan Latten says that the milder climate contributed to the decline: "The human body fares better in less extreme temperatures."
