Dutch Culture Minister Plasterk presents the Netherlands’ highest awards for scientific research.

THE HAGUE - At a ceremony in The Hague's New Church, Dutch Culture Minister Ronald Plasterk presented the 2008 Spinoza Prizes, the Netherlands' highest awards for scientific research.

Neurology Professor Marjo van der Knaap was awarded the prize for her work on brain disorders in children. The other winners were Joep Leerssen, professor of Modern European Literature at the University of Amsterdam, Theo Rasing, professor of Physics at Radboud University in Nijmegen and Willem de Vos, professor of Microbiology at Wageningen University.

The researchers will each receive EUR 1.5 million to devote to his or her project.
