Somali suspects: probe "bungling" intelligence
The lawyer of two suspected Somali terror suspects who were freed on Sunday is calling for a probe into the procedures of the national security service, the AIVD, which he described as "bungling".
Speaking on radio, the lawyer said he would ask the Intelligence Services Oversight Commission to order an independent investigation. The lawyer is also preparing a claim for damages.
Information provided by the AIVD prompted the authorities on Friday to arrest 12 Somali men suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in the Netherlands. Five of them were released on Sunday for lack of evidence.
One of the lawyer's two clients says it was the very fear of a terrorist attack that made him flee Somalia. The Public Prosecutor will decide the fate of the other seven Somalis later today.
