Deputy Defence Minister Jack de Vries has granted soldiers permission to wear their uniforms while taking part in this year's edition of the Gay Pride parade.

AMSTERDAM - However, the ministry has emphasised that it in no way participates in the gay parade in Amsterdam.

The ministry says it does not believe Gay Pride contributes to a positive image of homosexuals.

Last year, military personnel was still barred from wearing their uniforms.

Parliament then urged the ministry to be more lenient in future.
