AMSTERDAM - The CDA wants clarification from the defence department about an incident in Greece involving Dutch soldiers.

Soldiers returning from the mission in Afghanistan were involved in fights on the island of Crete. One soldier has been suspended.

Troops are debriefed after Uruzgan and allowed some rest and relaxation on the Greek island before returning to the Netherlands. The defence department allows them unlimited free alcohol during their stay.

Christian democrat CDA MP Raymond Knops wants to question the defence minister about measures to prevent new incidents resulting from excessive alcohol consumption.

The ChristenUnie thinks that allowing soldiers unlimited alcohol is unacceptable. The Labour party PvdA also thinks that the fighting is unacceptable, but is awaiting the evaluation report of the incident.
