AMSTERDAM – The 20-year-old soldier stationed at the barracks in Oirschot who was arrested last week on suspicion of having raped a female colleague filed against her on Monday for slander and defamation of character. His lawyer Carlo Oomes announced this on Tuesday.

The soldier denies that he raped the woman and says that she invented her story. The man has been suspended pending the Marechaussee's investigation. He will not be deployed to Uruzgan as planned. As a result the man will miss out on income, Oomes explained.

The lawyer says that the suspension was a precaution agreed upon in consultation with the commander because the soldier feels the incident would not allow him to concentrate on his work properly if deployed.
