Six injured in Rotterdam construction site collapse

At least six construction workers were injured in Rotterdam on Thursday when a floor of the building they were working on collapsed.

A reporter for the BNR radio channel said the accident occurred just after concrete had been poured on one of the floors of the building under construction. Several concrete floor slabs broke in half, causing extensive damage. The cause of the accident is as yet unknown.

Rescue services believe no more people are buried under the rubble, but sniffer dogs will be sent in to make absolutely sure just as soon as there is no more danger of further collapse. The building under construction on the Coolsingel in central Rotterdam is to become a 70-metre high office and appartment tower, designed by architect Wiel Arets. So far, only a few floors had been completed.
